Jeremy Johnson of Palmer picked up his second victory of the season in the American Footgolf League Tour to catapult in the national rankings.

The 43-year-old won an AFGL 50 event over the weekend in Illinois in a playoff after tying for first place at 14-under par.

“It was a great facility and the staff at Salt Creek were first class,” he told me. “It was a beautiful day and I was a little off on my drives, but my approaches and putts went pretty well. It was exciting to be in a playoff especially with a great player and friend like Alex Hood.”

Johnson, of Palmer High fame, won his first tournament in Florida in March.

He ranks No. 14 nationally out of 125 men in the AFGL.

Footgolf mixes elements of both golf and soccer rules, with the main difference being 21-inch diameter cups.

The sport is growing fast with courses in all 50 states, Johnson said, including the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Anchorage and the North Star Golf Club in Fairbanks.
