Anchorage’s Eddie Lewis is living his dream, but it’s hardly a walk in the clouds.

The 23-year-old is playing his rookie season on the professional International Tennis Federation and traveling the world doing the thing he loves the most.

He has played tournaments in Florida, Mexico, Morocco and now South Korea.

“Life of tour for me has been an absolute dream, getting to test my skills against the best players around the world,” he told me.

Lewis, of South High fame, was a state champion in high school and an accomplished college player at NCAA D2 Eckerd College in Florida, where he played No. 1 singles.

The ITF tour is a major step up in competition.

“So far on tour it has been a lot tougher than I thought, but I see myself improving every day and my game and confidence keeps growing,” he said.

The 6-foot-2 right-hander has a power game with big forehand and exploding serve, but so far it hasn’t translated into a winning formula. He has lost eight of his last nine matches.

Lewis is currently in South Korea for two tournaments. The first leg in Gimcheon he suffered a 6-2, 6-0 setback in the first round. This was his first match on hardcourts after his previous eight straight on clay.

His final stop is Anseong.

“It’s truly been an amazing experience traveling to all these tournaments and taking in the culture. “Life on tour isn’t as glamorous as it seems it’s a lot of hard work and financial taxing especially players like me who don’t have their tennis federations and a lot of sponsors to help them with all the expenses.”
