Keegan Messing

Keegan Messing of Girdwood finished fourth in the men’s free skate long program at the ISU World Team Trophy event in Fukuoka, Japan.

The 27-year-old figure skater is a dual citizen of Canada and the United States.

He typically represents Canada for international events, including the 2018 Olympics.

But he still calls Alaska home and that’s all we care about.

Messing collected 178.04 points in the men’s field of 12 elite skaters.

His performance in the long program was much better than his ninth-place effort in the short program.

Team USA won the team competition, with Team Canada finishing fifth out of six.

Last month, Messing was named as one of the winners of the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame’s Pride of Alaska Award winner, presented to athletes that best exemplify consistent excellence in athletic competition.

In addition to skating in the Olympics in 2018, he also won his first Grand Prix medal and captured the Nebelhorn Trophy title.
