Anchorage’s Eddie Lewis recently made Alaska tennis history after winning his first doubles match on the International Tennis Federation World Tour at a M15 Futures event in Guam.

The 24-year-old second-year pro player joined Japan’s Masayoshi Ono to defeat a Swedish duo 6-2, 7-6 (2) in the Round of 16 before dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to a team from Japan in the quarterfinals.

Lewis, of South High fame, is believed to be the first Alaskan to secure a point for the Association of Tennis Professionals.

He also competed in singles while in Guam, but lost Japan’s Kent Tagashira 6-2, 6-3 in the first round.

This was his first tournament of the season on the Futures Tour, which is the third tier of professional tennis behind the Challenger Tour and ATP Tour.

Last year as a rookie, Lewis competed in Futures events in Florida, Great Britain, South Korea, Morocco and Mexico.

He is a former No.1 player at NCAA D2 Eckerd College in Florida.
