Alev Kelter

Alev Kelter of Eagle River danced around two defenders and sprinted untouched for 50 yards to score a try and spark the USA Women’s Eagles 15s rugby team to a 20-18 comeback victory over Canada at the Super Series in San Diego, California.

The 28-year-old showcased strength and speed on the same play, first shaking off two would-be tacklers and then outsprinting a pack of defenders. She successfully kicked a two-point conversion to pull the Americans within 18-15 in the 62nd minute.

Kelter, of Chugiak High fame, also kicked a three-point penalty to give her 10 of Team USA’s 20 points. It was Team USA’s first win over Canada since 2015.

Kelter is playing with the Eagles 15s through the USA women’s 7s residency program.

She is the leading scorer for the Eagles 7s squad and a big reason the team qualified for the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.
