Lindsey Beans-Polk

Alaska wrestlers Lindsey Beans-Polk of Bethel and Janice Dykes of North Pole each advanced to the championship match in their respective weight classes at the Adrian Invitational.

This was the first taste of college wrestling for both women from Gannon University, a NCAA D2 school in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Beans-Polk went 3-2 at 136 pounds in the largest bracket of the tournament.

She picked up all three wins on first-period pins, including one in just 38 seconds.

Her only losses were both to defending champion Elisa Cox of Adian.

Beans-Polk is believed to be the first women from Bethel High to wrestle in college.

Janice Dykes

Dykes advanced to the college level after just two years of high school wrestling.

She went 3-1 at 123 pounds, suffering her only loss in the championship match to junior teammate Caleeann Blarr.

Dykes won two matches by first-period pin and another by a 10-0 technical fall.
