American Legion Baseball players Luke Barch and Orazio Ramos of Eagle River were named Alaska Athlete of the Week co-winners after leading the Wolves to their first ever Legion State Championship title.

Barch pitched a 2-hit shutout and Ramos crushed a home run in Eagle River’s  1-0 win in the championship game over South Anchorage High School at Mulcahy Stadium.

Ramos brought to life every player’s dream – hitting a game-winning home run in the state championship game. He made it look easy too, launching a moon shot that cleared the wall by a good 40 feet.

This was a historic performance by Barch and South’s Reid Brock, who both pitched the whole game and produced just the fourth 1-0 final score in the tournament’s 69-year history.

The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame Alaska Athlete of the Week is selected by a panel each Friday and announced publicly Monday morning on our Facebook page.
