Lydia Jacoby

Seward’s Lydia Jacoby won another medal in the 100-meter breaststroke, this time claiming bronze at the FINA World Cup in Germany.

The 17-year-old reigning Olympic gold medalist again showed moxie, traveling across the globe to deliver another strong swim in international waters.

Jacoby clocked a time of 1:05.20 in her specialty event to finish a full second ahead of the race’s fourth-place finisher.

By comparison, at the Toyko Olympics she posted a 1:04.95 to win gold in the 100 breaststroke and a 1:05.03 to win silver in the 4×100 medley relay.

Jacoby, of Seward High fame, will swim in college at the University of Texas.

Before going to the Big 12, though, she is doing big things in Berlin.

Yesterday in the 200 breaststroke she shaved two seconds off her personal best with a time of 2:24.99.

Through two events, Jacoby has racked up 1,673 points at the World Cup. She still has one last event in Germany with the 50 breakstroke.

The month-long World Cup is a qualifier for the World Championships and features four legs in four countries, beginning in Germany.

The second leg is in Hungary, the third in Qatar and the fourth in Russia.
