Kamaka Hepa

Kamaka Hepa of Utqiagvik filled it up from all over the court on his way to scoring a career-high 19 points for the University of Hawaii.

The 6-foot-10 junior forward scored inside, outside and from the foul line in an 88-80 win over Illinois-Chicago at the Las Vegas Classic.

Hepa unleashed his aggressive side, taking the ball to the rack and posting career highs in both free-throw attempts and makes. He connected on 6-of-8 field goals, including an and-1 and a pair of 3-pointers.

His previous career high of 15 points was set twice during his time at the University of Texas.

Hepa added six rebounds and four assists in his most productive college game in his 62 career appearances at the NCAA Division I level.

A change of scenery has done the Alaskan well.

He’s already reached double figures in two of his four games at Hawaii; at Texas it happened three times in 58 games. Two weeks ago, he grabbed a career-high eight rebounds and just missed a double-double against Northern Colorado.

Hepa, of Barrow High fame, is averaging a career-best 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds on .556-percent shooting.
