Lydia Jacoby
Seward’s Lydia Jacoby picked up her first medal at the FINA World Swimming Championships after helping the Team USA 4×50-meter medley relay team take silver.
She handled the breaststroke leg and posted a split of 29.6 seconds as the Americans (1:43.61) finished behind Sweden, which tied the world record (1:42.38) set by U.S. in 2018.
Jacoby was joined in the finals by Rhyan White on the backstroke, Claire Curzan on butterfly and Abbey Weitzeil on freestyle.
“It was just great to be back racing for Team USA on a relay,” she told reporters. “It was super fun and we are all super proud to be put on these relays, so it means a lot.”
Jacoby, of Seward High fame, now has seven career medals – four at the World Cup, two at the Olympics and one at the World Championship.
All of the medals have come in the breaststroke – five on her own and two with a relay.
In the 50 individual breaststroke, Jacoby posted a time of 30.2 but did not qualify for the finals.
