Jeremy Swayman is our Alaska Athlete of the Week after his red-hot play since being called back up from the minor leagues by the Boston Bruins.

The Anchorage goaltender has surrendered just four goals in his last four starts for the Bruins, going 3-0-1 in that stretch, with a 0.98-goals-against average – two of those four games extended beyond regulation – and a .968 save percentage.

After battling much of the past year to stick full time with the NHL squad, Swayman’s recent play has earned him an inside track on the starting spot.

The Alaska Athlete of the Week is selected by a panel each Monday.

Note: Nordic skiers Scott Patterson, who finished an American all-time best 8th in the Olympic 30K, and Rosie Brennan who finished 4th in the same event and just missed a bronze medal, were not considered this week after earning athlete of the week honors the past two weeks respectively.  However, their achievements deserve special mention.
