Seward’s Lydia Jacoby turned in two personal-best performances at the USA Swimming International Team Trials but was turned away for a Worlds berth by nine-tenths of a second.
The high school senior placed third, fourth and fifth in three breaststroke races in Greensboro, North Carolina, against the country’s premier swimmers in a meet that served as a Team USA qualifier for the World Championships.
Jacoby, the reigning Olympic champion in the 100-meter breaststroke, placed fourth in the 100 with a time of 1:06.21, missing out on a Worlds berth by a nose. Second-place Annie Lazor got the nod in 1:06.12.
Jacoby posted personal bests in the 50 and 200. The University of Texas-bound breaststroke specialist placed third in the 50 in 30.35 – finishing 0.01 behind Kaitlyn Dobler (30.34). Jacoby was fifth in the 200 in 2:26.60, a full seconds behind fourth place Anna Keating (2:24.62).
