Keith Osowski, Ruby Lindquist and Audrey Rosencrans, a trio of Alaska small-town stalwarts, continued littering their college school-record lists over the weekend at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance meet.
Osowski (Kodiak High) took down the Black Hills State University (S.D.) 1,500-meter record when he clocked 3 minutes, 45.29 seconds to take .33 off the old mark and finish fifth in the meet. Osowski also owns the outdoor school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with his 8:50.02 from earlier this season. Indoors, he sits No. 2 all-time on the Black Hills list in the mile (4:09.20) and No. 4 all-time in the 3,000 meters (8:26.56). Osowski’s 1,500 and steeplechase times are both NCAA Division II qualifiers for the national meet.

Black Hills teammate Lindquist (Moose Pass/Seward High) in the same Last Chance meet, delivered the school’s No. 2 all-time mark in the steeplechase (10:36.40) with her second-place finish. Lindquist owns three school records. Outdoors, holds the standard in the mile (4:29.52). Indoors, she owns top marks in the mile (4:52.60) and 3,000 meters (9:52.12). Like Osowski, her 1,500 and steeplechase times are provisional qualifiers.

Rosencrans (Homer High), who competes for Academy of Art (Calif.), finished fourth in the steeplechase that included runner-up Lindquist, finished fourth and broke the school record for a third time this season with her 10:45.13. She also blew away her 10,000-meter personal best by 44 seconds in 36:16.17, another school record. Both marks are provisional qualifiers. Indoors, Rosencrans owns school records in the mile (5:14.37) and 5,000 (17:30.09), and she sits No. 5 all-time in the 3,000 meters (10:36.04).
At the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships in Ellensburg, Wa., Seattle Pacific’s Vanessa Aniteye (Chugiak High), the transfer from UAA, won the 400 meters in 54.62, just .02 off her PR. She also took fifth in the 200 in a PR of 24.98.
Western Washington’s Sophie Wright (Palmer High) finished third in 800 (2:15.14) and UAA’s Bailey Roe (Fairbanks/West Valley High) claimed seventh in 2:20.46.
Also, on the men’s side, Kaleb Korta (Galena) of Western Washington, a transfer from UAA, helped the Vikings win their third straight men’s championship with his seventh-place finish in the steeplechase (9:44.43).
And UAA’s Adrian Velasco (Dimond High) earned sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.96.
At the North Star Athletic Association Championships in Valley City, N.D.), Galen Brantley III (Soldotna High) racked points in the shot put, discus and hammer, and generated two PRs in the process. He finished runner-up in the shot put (49 feet, 11 inches), fifth in the discus (146-3, PR) and seventh in the hammer (146-10, PR).
