Adam Hendrix of Anchorage bested 1,445 other players to seize the championship of the $1,600 No-Limit Hold ‘em event at the Wynn Summer Classic in Las Vegas and earn Alaska Athlete of the Week honors.

Or maybe we should say Sportsman of the Week.

His second poker tournament championship this year, and the fifth of his career, earned Hendrix $257,885. It was the second-largest purse in his career.

According to cardplayer.com, Hendrix has now accumulated nine career finishes that each earned him $100,000 or more, and the website pegs his career recorded earnings at $3.325 million.

Other finalists included mountain bike champion Eric Strabel, Legion baseball star Liam Lierman, golfer Zeyu Zhao and mountain runners Zack Bursell and Abby Jahn.

The Alaska Athlete of the Week is selected by a panel each Monday.
