Emily McCutcheon is the Alaska Athlete of the Week after her hitting powered South Anchorage to the state high school softball title.

McCutcheon, a shortstop, went 9-for-15 at the plate with three home runs, five doubles and seven RBIs in the state championship tournament in Fairbanks.

She broke her school record with her 16th home run of the season in the Wolverines’ 10-2 win over Chugiak in the championship game.

McCutcheon now has 106 RBIs in 200 career plate appearances in her high school career.

The Alaska Athlete of the Week is selected by a panel each Monday.
