Anchorage golfer Greg Sanders was named Alaska Athlete of the Week after winning his 10th Alaska State Amateur golf championship Sunday in a playoff at Chena Bend in Fairbanks.

It took a huge comeback for Sanders to earn his 10th title.

Trailing by 7 strokes back at 74, he shot a 68 to Jason Aspelund’s 71 on Saturday to trail by four, and then outshot Aspelund 74-70 in the final round to force the playoff.

Sanders went on to defeat Aspelund in the playoff in six holes in what was arguably the most dramatic of his ten championships.

The Alaska Athlete of the Week is selected by a panel each Monday.
