Corina Froehle’s offensive outburst kept the Eastern Washington University women’s soccer team on the winning track as the Eagles posted a 4-1 victory over Louisiana to stay hot in September.
The junior midfielder from Anchorage bagged a goal in the 44th minute and then assisted on Mya Elder-Hammond’s goal in the 60th minute to help EWU improve to 3-1 this month.
Froehle had not recorded a point in 32 previous college appearances before going off for three points in 28 minutes off the bench in the NCAA Division I game.
The former Bartlett High standout made her first appearance of the day in the 37th minute and scored shortly after. She stayed on the field for the start of the second half and set up the team’s third goal. Five minutes later she came off for good, having staked her team to a comfortable lead and doing her job.
Her goal was a thing of beauty as she crossed up two defenders and then beat the Ragin’ Cajuns’ goalkeeper clean.
She received the ball near the 25-yard line and then made her move toward goal, deking the first defender and juking a second defender before blasted a shot inside post for the first goal of her college career. She had attempted only two shots on goal before undressing the defense with deft dribbling skills.
