Seward swimmer Lydia Jacoby was one of 31 Olympic medalists named to the 2022-23 roster for the U.S. National Team.
The 18-year-old breaststroke specialist who won gold at the Tokyo Games in Japan will represent the red, white and blue in her discipline at 100 and 200 meters.
Even though Jacoby won an Olympic gold medal in the 100 breast last summer, she had to qualify all over again to make this season’s Team USA.
She made the cut after posting a time of 1:06.21 at the International Trials. That ranks her No. 4 among Americans, although she popped a blistering clip of 1:04.95 at the Olympics.
Jacoby won gold in the 200 breast at the Monaco stop of the Mare Nostrum Tour, touching the wall in 2:25.98 to earn a second spot with the team.
The Alaskan has already pieced together a hall-of-fame career, all before she enters college.
Jacoby – the first swimmer from Alaska to compete at the Olympics – has won seven international medals with Team USA, highlighted by her gold at Olympics and silver at Worlds.
She is currently a freshman at the University of Texas and begins the season next month against TCU.
