University of Alaska Anchorage volleyball star Eve Stephens is the Alaska Athlete of the Week after a week in which she received a national honor and then became the conference all-time kills leader.
Stephens of Palmer led the Seawolves to a sweep of Western Oregon, contributing 9 kills, 4 blocks, and 8 digs un a dynamic performance The Colony now has 1,630 kills to make her the Great Northwest Athletic Conference all time kills leader with much of her senior season remaining ahead of her.
The 6-foot-1 Colony grad earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II National Player of the Week racking up career-best 31 kills the previous weekend.
Stephens’s torrid play has helped the Seawolves get off to a 12-1 start. UAA is ranked 14th in the nation.
The Alaska Athlete of the Week is selected by a panel each Monday.
