Zavier Hajdukovich
Two college goalkeepers from Alaska have been so filthy in net, they are clean.
Anchorage’s Zavier Hajdukovich and Juneau’s Shaylin Cesar have combined for 10 clean sheets in 21 NCAA games this year – but Saturday was the first time both players had shutouts on the same day.
Hajdukovich anchored Cal State East Bay’s 1-0 win over San Francisco State in Division II men’s action while Cesar backstopped Pacific Lutheran’s 2-0 victory over Whitworth in Division III women’s play.
This was his fifth shutout in 11 appearances, her fifth shutout in 10.
Hajdukovich (Dimond) is a 6-foot-2 sophomore who has emerged as East Bay’s No. 1 keeper. He barely played last year, but now he doesn’t come off the field as he’s logged all 990 minutes the team has played.
East Bay is 4-0-1 when the Alaskan posts a shutout and he’s currently riding a heater – a Hajdukovich heater.
He will carry a scoreless streak of 292 minutes and 12 seconds into Thursday’s game at Chico State in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Shaylin Cesar
Shifting to the Northwest Conference, Cesar is a big reason why Pacific Lutheran sits atop the league standings.
The 5-foot-6 senior keeper has allowed only five goals on 39 shots on net to help the 8-1-1 Lutes outscore opponents 26-5.
Cesar seldom comes off the field, having played 871 of a possible 900 minutes.
She started the season with a scoreless streak of 413 minutes and 27 seconds that was snapped in the 82nd minute of a 3-1 win over Pacific.
The next day she helped blank Linfield 3-0, her last shutout before Saturday.
