Colony High School’s do-everything football star Jack Nash was named Alaska Athlete of the Week after his historic performance led the Knights over Bartlett in their ASAA Division I semifinal playoff game.
The junior offense/defense stalwart finished with seven touchdowns in his team’s 46-33 road win. From the quarterback position he threw for five and ran for another. But his score from the defensive side of the field was a game-breaker.
The Cook Inlet Conference Defensive Player of the Year made the play of the game when he returned an interception 87 yards for a touchdown in the final seconds of the first half to give the Knights a lead they never relinquished.
It was Nash’s state-best 12th interception of the season and his third pick six.
Nash accounted for 238 through the air, 105 on the ground and 87 on the interception return. He is the first player to score seven TDs in a large-school playoff game since 2012.
The 8-2 Knights are going to the First National Bowl for the first time since 2006 where they will face the top-seeded and undefeated Juneau Huskies.
