Tikigaq High School hoops standout Joelian Lane put on a show at the Alaska Prep Shootout last weekend at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

The senior from Point Hope scored 114 points in his three games, to set a new scoring record for the 29-year-old tournament and earn him  Alaska Athlete of the Week accolades.

Lane, who combines deadly outside shooting with drives to the basket, went off for 49, 40, 25 against Dimond, Chugiak, and Wasilla respectively.

Tikigaq, located in Point Hope above the Arctic Circle on the Chukchi Sea, makes a habit of representing Class 2A well against the state’s larger school.

The Harpooners didn’t win a Shootout game, but the school with an enrollment of just 80 students was competitive in every game.

Based on available records, Lane bested Dimond’s Warren Lewis, who scored 97 points in 2005.

The Alaska Athlete of the Week is selected by a panel each Monday.
