Jeremiah Bailey

The postseason hasn’t started yet in the British Basketball League, but ‘Playoff Jeremiah Bailey’ has been activated.

The rookie forward from Fairbanks delivered his second-highest player ranking of the season Sunday for the Caledonia Gladiators in a 102-77 win over the Surrey Scorchers in Glasgow, Scotland.

Bailey bagged 18 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for his 12th double-double in 34 pro games. His player ranking of 29 was second only to the 37 he posted against Cheshire on Dec. 16, when he pumped in a career-high 36 points.

He made 9-of-10 shots from the field, threw down two dunks and pinned a shot against the backboard for a highlight-reel blocked shot.

Caledonia improved to 19-15 to secure a fourth-place finish in the BBL Championships standings, four games back of the Bristol Flyers. The regular season wraps up Friday.

The 6-foot-6 Alaskan has been unreal in the United Kingdom, with former Monroe Catholic High star averaging 13.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game in his first season overseas.

The game against Surrey was the sixth time he had furnished a 10-10-5 line as he has emerged as one of the premier playmakers in the league.

In the first quarter he blocked a shot when he pinned a layup attempt against the backboard and then started the fastbreak and led to a bucket. Moments later he had a two-handed dunk.

In the third quarter his baseline drive resulted in another two-hand slam. Later the smooth southpaw swished an elbow jumper to make it 71-54.

Bailey showcased his feel for the game on back-to-back plays in the fourth quarter when led the break and assisted on a dunk and then converted a layup on a beautifully executed pick-and-roll.

His season highs are 36 points, 18 rebounds, eight assists and five steals.
