Spencer Woods of Shungnak won the 82kg Greco-Roman title at the US Open wrestling championships in Las Vegas.
Woods, who wrestled at Kotzebue High School, defeated two-time Olympian Ben Provisor in the finals of the meet which is considered one of the most prestigious in the nation..
Coming in to the tournament, Provisor was the nation’s top-ranked wrestler and Woods was No. 2.
Woods prevailed over a loaded field that included the full US National team, of which Woods is a member.
