
Clair DeGeorge
Forward Clair DeGeorge of Anchorage, who owns both an impressive rink resume and academic portfolio, continued her journey in elite pucks Monday, when the Minnesota franchise selected her in the sixth round of the inaugural Professional Women’s Hockey League Draft.
DeGeorge, 24, was picked 36th overall in the 90-player draft, which included 15 picks each by the six franchises on the circuit that is scheduled to begin its first season in January.
DeGeorge is a nurse at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. She owns a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Bemidji State (Minn.) and a master’s in bioethics/medical ethics from Ohio State.
She most recently played for Team Harvey’s in the Professional Women’s Hockey Players’ Association, notching one goal and three assists in 18 games in 2022-23.
DeGeorge played five seasons of college hockey, capped by a NCAA Division I title with Ohio State in 2022. She racked a goal and an assist in the Buckeyes’ championship win, and she fired a game high-tying seven shots on goal. She also delivered the double overtime dagger in the national quarterfinals. In 38 games that season, DeGeorge generated 16-30—46 totals and a plus-36 rating.
She spent her four college seasons before that at Bemidji State, where she earned 28-51—79 totals in 128 games. DeGeorge’s 125 points are the third-most by an Alaskan woman in Division I history.
DeGeorge played all four seasons of high school hockey for powerhouse Shattuck-St. Mary’s (Minn.) and won four national titles.
Coming up in youth hockey, she played for the Alaska All Stars, the AHA North Stars and the Southcentral Wolves.
