Anchorage’s Mai Mateaki bagged the first two goal of her collegiate soccer career to power the D1 Air Force Academy to a 3-0 victory over Hawaii in Honolulu to earn Alaska Athlete of the Week honors.
In just her third game, the freshman scored her first goal in the sixth minute.
The former Dimond High star and reigning Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year, racked up 85 goals and 206 points during her high school career.
Also receiving consideration:
- Jayden Heartwell – The Dickinson State cornerback out of Anchorage made four tackles and grabbed an interception as part of a two-touchdown day in a 42-17 victory over Rocky Mountain in North Dakota.
- Kendall Kramer – The UAF cross country runner helped the Nanooks outduel UAA by covering the six-kilometer course at Kincaid in 20 minutes, 42 seconds to secure the victory and lead UAF to a 23-29 team win over the Seawolves.
- Cayden Pili – The Dimond High quarterback accounted for 230 of the team’s 404 total yards in a 40-39 win over Linfield Christian of California.
- David Sanders – The West High wide receiver had 14 catches for 166 yards and two TDs in a 21-20 victory over Lathrop. His 14 receptions marked the most for a West wideout since Shanai Leon’s 15 catches in 2015.
