Ainsley Smith’s double-double average across three matches at the Hawaii-Alaska Challenge went along way with voters in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference who selected her Defensive Player of the Week.
The UAF setter out of North Pole High averaged 10.3 digs and 35.6 assists, including a 14-dig, 34-assist effort against 12th-ranked in Chaminade in a four-set loss in Honolulu.
The 5-foot-10 junior chipped in 12 kills, including a 5-for-5 showing in a three-set sweep of Hawaii Pacific. She finished with .308 hitting percentage and added two block assists.
“Ainsley had a great weekend in Hawaii,” UAF coach Brian Scott said in a release. “Very excited for her to receive this recognition. Ainsley has spent many hours working on becoming a great defender while on the court. It is nice to see those efforts paying off.”
