Frida and Marisol Vargas are showing that the first family of Alaska soccer has more than just king Obed.
While their little brother enjoys professional success in the MLS, the Vargas sisters have kicked off the college season with their own success as Frida ranks second in scoring for Southern Oregon University and Marisol has won two of three starts in goal for the University of Saint Mary.
In three games, Frida racked up five points on a goal and three assists to key a 3-0 start for the Raiders, a NAIA school in Ashland, Oregon. The sophomore midfielder scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Simpson and assisted on the first two goals in a 3-1 win over Arizona Christian.
The former West High standout redshirted the 2022 season and then recorded one assist in 12 games in 2023 before going down with an injury and missing the second half of the season.
