North Pole High School’s Taimane Skipps produced three touchdowns – two on the ground and one in the air – in leading the Patriots to the title in the inaugural ASAA state tournament flag football championship.
The dual-threat quarterback scored on runs of 1 and 15 yards before throwing a 16-yard scoring strike to her sister, wide receiver Jade Skipps, on a high-arching spiral into the corner of the end zone.
North Pole (12-1) beat three Cook Inlet Conference teams to win the state title and finished the season on a seven-game winning streak.
Also receiving consideration:
- Toby Carlson – Anchorage Wolverines forward has scored seven goals and five assists (12 points) in his first 11 North American Hockey League games. The Anchorage-born skater tallied two goals in Saturday’s 7-1 road win at Fairbanks.
- Ava Earl – The Northwestern University senior from Girdwood won the Bradley Pink Classic, covering the 6-kilometer cross country course in 20 minutes, 14 seconds. She topped a 259-person field, setting a personal best by three seconds.
- Cayden Pili – The Dimond High junior quarterback and CIC offensive player of the year ran for 91 yards and four touchdowns while also passing for 96 more yards and tossing a scoring pass.

Porter Schachle – The UAA hockey player from Wasilla scored a pair of goals and added an assist Saturday as the Seawolves earned a 5-3 win at Northern Michigan for its first victory of the season.
