Anchorage’s Sayvia Sellers went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows on the basketball court Monday against seventh-ranked LSU.
Moments after the University of Washington sophomore guard drained a step-back 3-pointer in a you-can’t-stop-me highlight that gave her a career-high 24 points, she fouled out and watched the final four minutes from the bench as the Huskies lost 68-67 in the Bahamas.
Washington was outscored 11-5 down the stretch without Sellers and LSU won it on a layup with 1 second left as the Tigers pulled a rabbit from their hat in the first round of the Pink Flamingo Championship.
Armed with two previous 20-point games this month, Sellers added another gem with her signature performance against a blue blood. The 5-foot-7 guard knocked down 9-of-18 shots, including four of eight from 3-point range.
Sellers got busy early with two steals and nine points in the first quarter, including an and-one layup. Her 3-pointer put UW up 20-9. In the second quarter, she had an assist and blocked shot 16 seconds apart. A few minutes later, she buried a triple on assist from Eke Tayra to make it 29-21.

Late in the third quarter, she nailed a jumper to put the Huskies ahead 52-46 with 34 seconds left and give her 21 points in 30 minutes.
In the fourth quarter, Sellers went to the bench after picking up her fourth personal foul with 8:45 left. She came back at the 4:57 mark and quickly made her presence felt, drilling a step-back 3 with the shot clock winding down to put Washington up 62-57.
The good times didn’t last for the former Alaska Player of the Year. Eighteen seconds later, she was whistled for her fifth foul and went to the bench for good.
Sellers raised her season scoring average to 15.3 points per game, just behind Elle Ladine (15.4) for the team lead. Last week, Sellers scored 22 points against Montana and 21 against Eastern Washington. She had another game this year with seven assists against Seattle.
