Anchorage triathlete Sam Skold was selected as our Alaska Athlete of the Week after claiming 7th place in her debut as a professional triathlete at Ironman Arizona.
After the 2.4-mile swim, she passed more than 200 people in the 111-mile bike and the 26.2-mile run to earn a spot on the women’s podium.
Skold, a 31-year-old Air Force captain at JBER, had a brilliant 2025 season that included a triumphant debut in the Alaska Gold Nugget Triathlon and a huge rise in the Ironman rankings on the world stage.

- Stewart Erhart – The Fort Lewis men’s basketball player out of Fairbanks poured in a career-high 30 points against No. 15 West Texas A&M in a 105-84 loss.
- Maxime Germaine – The biathlete from Anchorage was a member of the U.S. men’s biathlon relay team whose World Cup 5th place finish Saturday was the third-best result in team history. The next day he was part of a mixed-gender relay team that delivered a best-ever 6th place showing.
- Aniah Harris – The Southwest Oregon Community College women’s basketball player came off the bench to score 32 points on 12-of-19 shooting in a 67-57 victory over Bellevue in the NWAC. The freshman and West High grad also grabbed eight rebounds.
- Elaina Mack – The UAA basketball player from King Cove scored 55 points in the Seawolves home sweep of UC Merced. The senior sharpshooter went 8 for 20 from 3-point range over the two games and also racked up 16 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 blocks.
- Allie Ostrander – The runner from Soldotna defended her title at the Boulder Thanksgiving Day 5K, winning in a blistering time of 16 minutes, 7.44 seconds.
- Jeremy Swayman – The Boston Bruins goaltender from Anchorage netminder capped a stupendous November by stopping 24 shots in regulation and all three Detroit shootout combatants in a 3-2 NHL home victory over the Red Wings on Saturday.
