Allie Ostrander was voted our Alaska Athlete of the Week after winning the Austin Cap10K — Texas’ Largest 10K — in a scorching 32 minutes, 45 seconds.
Competing against the deepest field in the race’s 49-year history, the runner from Soldotna slashed 58 seconds off the course record that had stood since 1997.
She pocketed $4,000 for the win and another $750 for race record.
- David Carle – The Anchorage native coached Denver University to the NCAA hockey championship. He now has 14-3 record in the NCAA tournament, and three national titles in six years years.
- Chugiak Boys Sprint Relay – The Mustang sprinters won the boys 4×100 relay at the Chugiak vs. West Dual Meet in a school-record 43.26 seconds.
- Zach Marten – The 16-year-old Sitka High swimmer topped the 15-19 age group for total points at the three-day 2026 Savannah Cayce Southeast Alaska Regional Championships. He placed first in the 1650 free, 400 IM, 100 breast, 500 free, 200 free, 100 IM, 50 breast, and second in the 200 fly.
- Emily McCutcheon – The Western Washington University softball player from Anchorage started three of four games at Montana State Billings and went 3-for-8 at the plate and turned her first double play in the field.
- Coen Niclai – The Arizona State baseball player from Anchorage hit three home runs last week, including a pair of bombs against Grand Canyon to become the first Alaskan to hit two home runs in a NCAA Division I game in a quarter-century.
- Roman Olsen – The Ketchikan Killer Whales Swim Club member broke his own state 11-12 year age group records for the 100 breast (1:01.80) and 50 breast (28.25) at the three-day 2026 Savannah Cayce Southeast Alaska Regional Championships over the weekend at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center in Juneau.
- Sampson Young – The Chugiak senior catcher batted .727 on a four-game road trip to Ketchikan, where the Mustangs beat Lathrop twice and the host Kings twice. Young was 8-for-11 with eight RBIs – one shy of matching his total in 19 games last season. He reached base in 11-of-15 plate appearances and racked up two triples and a double.
