University of Washington pitcher Liam Lierman was voted our Alaska Athlete of the Week after shutting down ninth-ranked Oregon State in his first start of the season.
The freshman left-hander from Eagle River allowed just one run in 5.1 innings to earn the win as the Huskies battered the Beavers 18-2 at Goss Stadium in Corvallis, Ore.
The two-time Cook Inlet Conference MVP out of Eagle River High improved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 3.44 in 18.1 innings across six appearances.
- Mike Finn – After a winter oif record-setting snowfall in southeast Alaska, the Sitka community member organized and led a massive effort to remove the snowpack from the Sitka High School playing fields so that Wolves students being able to take to the field for spring sports.
- Carter McCormick – The Eagle River skater and Captain for Kenai River completed a monster comeback, scoring the game-winning goal with just less than 18 seconds remaining in the Brown Bear’s wild 5-4 NAHL road victory over the Anchorage Wolverines. The Brown Bears scored four times in the final period at Sullivan Arena, including three goals in a 54-second span.
- Daishen Nix – The G League player from Anchorage flirted with a triple-double (35 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists) in a 112-97 loss to the South Bay Lakers in a do-or-die Western Conference semifinal. In two playoff games, the 6-4 guard led all G League players in points (69), while ranking fourth in assists (15) and sixth in rebounds (17).
- Essence Slate – The Fairbanks sprinter was an integral part in two record-breaking relays at VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C. The Mount Olive junior ran legs on the winning 4×100 (44.95) and 4×400 (3:42.39) relays that broke the program and conference records, and achieved a pair of provisional times.
