In Alaska, Chase Mascelli was the ideal leadoff hitter at the high school and American Legion levels. The speedy bunt specialist was an infield hit waiting to happen.
As a college player in New York, however, Mascelli has flexed his power for Cayuga Community College.
The freshman from Anchorage has been on a tear of late, batting .556 in his last four games with a double, triple, home run and 12 RBIs.
Mascelli had five RBIs in back-to-back games and his 25 RBIs on the season rank second among Alaskans playing college baseball this year. Sitka’s Dylan Marx has 28 RBIs at Lubbock Christian to lead the state.
Mascelli – who won a combined four state titles with South High and Service Post 28 Legion – has reached base in seven of his last 11 plate appearances and is 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts during this four-game heater.
Mascelli is batting .419 on 31-for-74 hitting with 29 runs scored in 31 games.
