Emily McCutcheon of Anchorage had the best GNAC series of her Western Washington University softball career over the weekend.
The sophomore slugger started three of four games at Montana State Billings and went 3-for-8 at the plate and turned her first double play in the field.
She got the party started with a pinch-hit single in Game 1, knocked in a run and scored in Game 3 and went 2-for-4 in Game 4.
The 2023 and 2022 Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year raised her batting average 18 points to .263 in 19 games.
This was McCutcheon’s first two-hit game since Feb. 3, when she went 2-for-4 against Colorado Christian with her first college long ball.
The former South High standout concluded her prep career as a two-time state champion with 50 home runs.
McCutcheon hit .400 as a freshman in 2024 before sitting out last season. She opened this season with a six-game hitting streak before cooling off.
In the series against Billings, she got back on track by getting on base. In addition to her three hits, she drew a walk and was hit by a pitch for the first time in 29 career games.
