Whether it be on the track, trails or roads, Allie Ostrander always finds a way to level up.

This time, the Oiselle-sponsored athlete sped to a lifetime-best 4 minutes, 30.27 seconds to place sixth at the USATF 1 Mile Road Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

The 29-year-old from Kenai played her cards meticulously, slotting herself just behind the lead pack as the race began and attempted to move up from there.

After a sizzling 66-second first 400, Ostrander continued the brisk pace, going through 800 meters in 2:14 to be within one second of the leaders in 10th.

The former three-time NCAA champion in the steeplechase passed three runners with 400 to go and went on to finish sixth out of the 17-person field, collecting $1,000 for her performance.

Ostrander’s time of 4:30.27 is a lifetime best and the fastest ever by an Alaskan woman, lopping 1.26 seconds off her previous best set at the Yakima Mile last June.

It also marks her highest finish in a US Championships — on the roads or track — since 2019.

“I had so much fun testing my speed and racing in the US Road Mile Championships,” shared Ostrander on Instagram. “I definitely finished feeling like I could have run it a little differently, but overall I’m happy.”

Indiana’s Addy Wiley won the US title in 4:25.42, while Colorado’s Gracie Hyde took runner-up in 4:25.64. The race doubled as a qualifying event for Team USA, as the top-2 punched their tickets to the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Denmark this September.

Perhaps most impressive has been Ostrander’s range.

The former Kenai Central standout lowered her own Alaska record at the Houston Half Marathon (1:10:08) in January, placed eighth at the US Half Marathon Championships (1:11:26) in March and won the Statesman Cap10K (32:45) in a course record, nine days prior to her mile opener.

Ostrander’s main goal for her training block remains geared towards the USATF 5K Championships, slated for May 2 in Indianapolis.
