Dimond’s Nevaeh Watkins was a quadruple winner at the Region IV Track & Field Championships, garnering her our Alaska Athlete of the Week honors.
The junior won the 100 (12.29), 200 (25.68), 100 hurdles (15.52) and high jump (5-3) to become a three-time region champ in both the 100 hurdles and the high jump.
But perhaps her most impressive win was in the 100, where she shaved off 0.41 seconds to demolish the 12-year-old school record and become the joint ninth-fastest performer in Alaska prep history.
- Bella Connally – The Juneau-Douglas sophomore won the 100, 200m, and anchored the winning 100m and 200m relay at the Region V championships.
- Adarra Hagelund/Dylan Dahlgren – The Soldotna Star grads capped their illustrious track and field careers at Dickinson State as gold and silver medalists at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
- Anders Larsen – The UAA athlete scored 7,041 points to place seventh and earn All-American honors at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The sophomore from Chugiak exceeded expectations to record a decathlon that ranks second in Alaska history and fifth in GNAC history.
- Boomchain Loucks – The Wrangell senior won the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m iat the Region V championships. He has the state’s top 800m and 1600m this season with 1:58.89 and 4:18.62, respectively, event though Wrangell has no track to train on.
- Rilen Niclai – The Service baseball player threw a complete game with 17 Ks in an 11-4 win over Dimond 11-4, breaking the Cook Inlet Conference strikeout record in the pitch count era dating back to 2018.
- Akito Shimizu – The Bartlett baseball player threw a 6-hit shutout as the Golden Bears ended the regular season by beating East 2-0. The following day the Japanese exchange student flew back to Japan.
- Isabel Sjostrand – The Chugiak softball player belted three home runs to power a 16-0 victory, hitting a solo shot in the first inning and three-run blasts in each of the second and third innings. She finished the game 3-for-3 with a career-high seven RBIs.
