David Norris of Fairbanks and Klaire Rhodes of Anchorage are our Alaska Athlete of the Week co-winners after impressive performances at the Mount Marathon Race.
The tandem continued their dominance of the iconic Seward mountain race at the 98th edition of the event.
Norris notched his seventh victory — the second-most in men’s race history behind Bill Spencer — in 43 minutes, 8 seconds, going 7-for-7 in his attempts.
Rhodes collected her third straight crown in 49:55, becoming the first woman to dip under the 50-minute barrier twice.
- Kyler Jensen – The Service Post 28 American Legion baseball player powered an offense that generated 29 runs in three games as the Cougars went 3-0. Jensen batted .364 on 4-for-11 hitting with a triple, double and seven RBIs.
- Jonah Shearer – The Chugiak Post 33 American Legion baseball player pitched eight innings of scoreless relief to highlight a 6-5 victory over Eagle River in 10 innings. The right-hander threw 101 pitches, 69 for strikes.
- Travante Williams – The Anchorage basketball player averaged 23 points in three games for Portugal at World Cup qualifying in Athens, helping the team advance to the second round for the first time.
