Three days after getting her feet wet for the University of Michigan women’s soccer team, Anchorage’s Brooklyn Reid was thrown into the deep end.
The freshman goalkeeper earned her first start against Bowling Green on Sunday and held her own, making three late-game saves and anchoring a 1-0 victory for her first shutout.
Big Blue struck for the game’s lone goal in the 22nd minute and Reid made it stick. She didn’t face any shots on goal in the first half, but Bowling Green poured it on in the second half, forcing Reid to make stops in the 72nd, 84th and 86th minute.
The 5-foot-11 Alaskan made her college debut Thursday in a 1-1 draw against Notre Dame, coming on for starting keeper Coda Jones in the final minute of regulation. Michigan moved to 2-0.
