Jordyn Bruce finished seventh against a loaded field at the Women’s Decathlon World Championships to earn our Alaska Athlete of the Week honors.
The 27-year-old from Eagle River scored 7,119 points to eclipse the 7K mark for the second time in her career.
Bruce’s performance was highlighted by an 18-foot personal best in the discus (122-2) and a 3-second personal best in the 1,500 (5:16.88).

- Yvonne Jeschke – The Anchorage runner reset her own course record at the Kesugi Ridge Full Traverse (31 miles) in 5 hours, 14 minutes and 53 seconds.
- Connor Monahan – The American Legion baseball player for Service threw a complete-game win and batted .500 on 6-for-12 hitting with four RBIs as the Cougars finished 2-2 at the Northwest Class A Regional Tournament in Casper, Wyo.
