North Pole High School flag football player Jade Skipps scored five TDs and amassed an eye-popping 303 all-purpose yards in a 67-0 victory over West Valley to garner our Alaska Athlete of the Week honors.
Skipps, a multi-sport dynamo, caught three touchdown receptions, ran one in, and scored on a 37-yard interception return on defense.
The senior racked up 102 yards receiving, 85 on punt returns, 79 running the ball, and 37 on her pick six.
Skipps was the MaxPreps Alaska Player of the Year her sophomore year, when she led the nation in rushing with 3,081 yards to go with 21 yards. Last season, she was named a MaxPreps All-American honorable mention.
- Taylor Deal – The Anchorage runner won the Lost Lake Run in 1 hour, 49 minutes and 49 seconds to come within 34 seconds of Chris Clark’s course record from 1999.
- Haylee Lyons – The UAF volleyball player led the 16th-ranked Nanooks with 52 kills in four matches at the Alaska/Hawaii Challenge in Hilo, Hawaii. The outside hitter recorded a .308 attack percentage and furnished a double-double against Hilo.
- Jaxin Jim – The Juneau-Douglas football player scored on offense and defense to power a 17-14 win at East Anchorage. Jim’s 8-yard TD kicked off the scoring and he added a sack and 16-yard interception return on defense.
- Manny Maga – The West Anchorage running back racked up 119 yards and two TDs in a 52-0 win over Dimond. Maga produced all 80 yards on one scoring drive that featured runs of 31, 17, 15 and 17 yards.
- Katie Rowekamp – The Girdwood resident started the alpine ski season with a victory at a South American Cup race in Argentina. The teenager from the top of the world won a giant slalom race at Cerro Castor, the southern-most ski resort in the world.
- Claire Shaha and Katahdin Staples – East High’s Staples and Chugiak’s Shaha stormed to 5K victories at the Ted McKenney Invite in Soldotna. Staples, a senior, won the boys race in 15:54 — the fastest season-opener since Santiago Prosser (15:45) in 2018. Shaha topped the field in 19:15 to become the first freshman to win the girls race at Tsalteshi since Kendall Kramer in 2016.

Snowden Williams – Kenai HS football player had 237 all purpose yards and scored 5 TDs, 5 different ways. Kick Return, Punt Return, Pick 6, rushing TD, receiving TD. He also ended up w the ball on a broken 2 pt conversion play and threw a complete pass for the conversion.

Ashlynn Zura – The Juneau softball player had 51 strike outs, only allowed four hits, and had two no-hitters in the four games pitched for her 12U AK Krush Fastpitch Softball-Beckes team in the 2026 JO State Tournament in Chugiak, AK.
