After scoring the first two touchdowns on his own, Colony football player Kaden Ortiz got a little help from his friends to complete the hat trick.
The pile-driving Knights pushed Ortiz across the goal line from 5 yards out in the fourth quarter to seal Friday night’s 26-10 win over the Cougars at Service High School.
Ortiz scored on runs of 3, 39 and 8 yards en route to racking up 88 yards and nearly outrushing the entire Service team as the Valley boys improved to 2-0 in the Cook Inlet Conference.
On his third TD, Ortiz looked to be stuffed at the 5 after a 3-yard gain before his offensive line tush-pushed him across the goal line in a display of formidable force. That extended Colony’s lead to 20-10 with just under six minutes to play.

The Knights topped it off at the two-minute mark after quarterback Trayvon Lott hit Hudson Broeder in the end zone off play action. Lott scrambled to his left and found Broeder, who made a nice leaping catch.
Broeder, who sports Colony’s famed No. 21 jersey, hauled in four receptions for 68 yards.
In the second quarter, Broeder and Lott hooked up for a 41-yard pass play on a bomb down the right sideline. It was hard to determine which was better: the throw (50 yards in the air) or the catch (with a defender draped on him).
The drive ended after a missed 41-yard field goal by Charles Figgins, who had another field-goal attempt blocked as well as a PAT.
Colony’s win snapped a two-game losing streak to Service, which leads the all-time series 8-7 dating back to 1995.

The Knights took a 7-0 lead on Ortiez’s first TD midway through the first quarter and then made a goal-line stand after denying Service’s rushing attempt on 4th-and-goal from the 2. However, two plays later, Service scored a safety after Kegan Lennox tackled Lott in the end zone.
Lennox, a star baseball player, had himself a day on the gridiron. At defensive back, he recorded a handful tackles and made two interceptions, including one in the end zone. At wide receiver, he averaged 11 yards per catch.
Fellow diamond dawg Noah Cummings was under center and accounted for 147 passing, 44 rushing and three receiving. He shined at times, struggled at others, got benched and came back to get the Cougars (1-1) within striking distance.
Cummings connected with Hunter Davis for a 39-yard TD on the first play of the fourth quarter, capping a 10-play, 80-yard drive. Cummings ran in the two-point conversion as the Cougars got as close as 13-10.

Colony put its foot down after that, holding Service to 13 total yards the rest of the way and forcing turnover No. 6 on the Cougars final drive.
The Knights got picks from Jackson Forsyth, Kenneth Hopkins, Maverick Rodriguez and Tio Tyree. They also got two sacks from Beau Fischer and one from Leyland Busby.
Service crushed it on special teams, getting a blocked field goal by Kaylor Iloilo and a blocked PAT by Zedekiah Fanene.
The game was delayed 30 minutes in the third quarter after Service running back Edward Thompson took a big hit along the sideline after a 7-yard gain. Thompson was surrounded by medical officials, who made sure he laid still on the turf before EMTs were called to the field.
