If scoring just one goal in its first two games wasn’t bad enough, the Idaho State University women’s soccer team was also winless.
The Bengals needed a spark and a victory, and Anchorage’s Parker Sullivan supplied both.
The sophomore midfielder bagged her first college goal for the Big Sky Conference team on Sunday to fuel a 2-0 road win over Cal State Bakersfield of the Big West.
Sullivan crashed the net and cleaned up a bobble by the Bakersfield goalkeeper in front of the net to snap Idaho State’s 164-minute scoreless drought.
Sullivan arrived at Idaho State from Dimond High, where she scored 57 goals in 57 career games. A chip off the ‘ol block, she comes from an accomplished family and possesses unflappable confidence.
In the Bakersfield game, Idaho State coach Dustin Downey reportedly expressed frustration with his starters and asked the bench players who wanted to get on the field and score.
Sullivan raised her hand.
She entered in the 18th minute and scored seven minutes later.
Sullivan had started the previous two matches but came off the bench against Bakersfield, and obviously had something to prove.
