four Alaskans named all-league in North Star"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_33669\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33669\" src=\"https:\/\/alaskasportsreport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Snell-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-33669\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-33669\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Derryk Snell<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Most football players can\u2019t sit out half the year and make the all-conference team, but Big Sky coaches didn\u2019t hold a lower-body injury against Montana State\u2019s Derryk Snell.<\/p>\n<p>The senior fullback out of Chugiak High was named first team all-league for the second straight year despite not playing since Oct. 14 for the Bobcats and missing the last five games.<\/p>\n<p>When he did play, the 6-foot-2, 240-pounder was a devastating blocker who peeled away would-be tacklers like a can opener to help fuel the conference\u2019s top rushing attack.<\/p>\n<p>Snell was honored as a fullback but he\u2019s really a hybrid playmaker as an effective blocking back and tight end (he can also run and throw). <\/p>\n<p>In six games this year he has hauled in 12 receptions for 159 yards and three touchdowns; Montana State Football (@MSUBobcats_FB) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MSUBobcats_FB\/status\/1713361162430296347?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 15, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Snell missed last weekend\u2019s rivalry game against Montana in the regular-season finale but was on the field during pre-game warmups using a knee walker to get around. <\/p>\n<p>He was probably dying to play and might get his chance in next weekend&#8217;s FCS playoffs when Montana State (8-3) hosts the North Dakota State\/Drake winner on Dec. 2 in Bozeman.<\/p>\n<p>Snell hasn\u2019t been ruled out so there\u2019s a chance the 2017 Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year will be on the field.<\/p>\n<p>For his MSU career, Snell has played in a career 51 games, making him one of just five Alaskans to reach the 50-game plateau at the NCAA Division I level. <\/p>\n<p>His 12 career TDs rank No. 16 on Alaska\u2019s all-time NCAA scoring list.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alaskasportsreport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/OIP-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-43869\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Moving to the NAIA level, the state of Alaska was well represented on the North Star Athletic Association all-conference teams.<\/p>\n<p>Four players were picked, including three First Team All-NSAA selections in Soldotna\u2019s Galen Brantley III of Dickinson State at tight end, East Anchorage\u2019s Georgie Mageo of Valley City State at defensive lineman and South Anchorage\u2019s Jayden Heartwell of Dickinson State at defensive back.<\/p>\n<p>East Anchorage\u2019s Georgia Mageo of Valley City State was named Second Team All-NSAA at defensive lineman.<\/p>\n<p>The NAIA playoffs continue Saturday when No. 14 seed Dickinson State (10-1) faces No. 2 seed Grand View (10-0).<\/p>\n<p>In the Great Plains Athletic Conference, Anchorage&#8217;s Tray Kingsland of Midland was named honorable mention at defensive back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most football players can\u2019t sit out half the year and make the all-conference team, but Big Sky coaches didn\u2019t hold a lower-body injury against Montana State\u2019s Derryk Snell.
