Amy Winczura

Texas Woman’s University national champion gymnast Amy Winczura of Eagle River earned Scholastic All-American recognition by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches.

The Pioneers compiled a 3.62 team grade point average during the 2012-13 academic year and ranked fourth out of 67 teams. The team GPA is the best ever by a TWU gymnastics squad.

Winczura, of East High fame, had a 3.56 GPA. She was one of 12 TWU gymnasts to record a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The rankings measure for comparison among all the women’s gymnastics programs in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III.

TWU finished behind Southeast Missouri State (3.815), Western Michigan (3.809) and Utah (3.692) and ranked first among all D-II schools. The fourth place finish tied the highest ranking in TWU history. The 1991 and 2006 teams also placed fourth.

Winczura last season won the vault title at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships Individual Event Finals in Shreveport, La., earning a career-best score of 9.85.

She is a senior this year with a double-major in Biology and kinesiology.
