Cogdell wins shootout to claim second career Olympic bronze

There is clutch under pressure, and there is Corey Cogdell-Unrein at the Olympics.

For the second time in the last three Olympics, the trapshooter from Eagle River won a bronze medal after winning a do-or-die shootout.

At the Rio Games today the 29-year-old upset reigning world champion Fatima Galvez of Spain after Cogdell-Unrein hit her first shot and Galvez missed.

The situation mirrored how the Alaskan won her bronze medal at the Beijing Games in 2008.

On that day she was involved in a four-way shootout. After each of the first three shooters failed to hit the target, Cogdell-Unrein nailed it to claim the medal.

It was the 10th career major medal for Cogdell-Unrein dating back to 2007.

She owns two Olympic bronze medals, a Pan American bronze, a gold, silver and bronze from the World Cup, a gold from the Championship of the Americas and a gold and two bronze from U.S. National Championships.
