Eagle River’s Corey Cogdell-Unrein closed a productive trapshooting season with her third major medal.

The world’s third-ranked shotgun shooter overcame a string of uncharacteristic misses to win the bronze at the ISSF World Cup today in Rome, Italy.

Cogdell-Unrein beat Lebanon’s Ray Bassil by a 12-10 score to claim a spot on the podium.

The two-time Olympic bronze medalist overcame a string of three straight misses in the bronze-medal match, but her opponent missed three straight in the final five targets to give Cogdell-Unrein the win.

The 30-year-old Alaskan advanced to the bronze-medal final by defeating world No. 1 Catherine Skinner of Australia in a shootoff.

The bronze is Cogdell-Unrein’s first podium finish at a World Cup Final.

In addition to her two Olympic bronze medals from 2008 and 2016, she had won a total of seven World Cup medals, including two golds, two silvers and three bronzes.
