Reid shoots low score to lead USA over Japan for Pacific Trophy

Jo Reid of Anchorage helped Team USA win an international event over the weekend while enjoying a personal victory in the new sport of footgolf.

Footgolf combines soccer and golf, with players kicking a soccer ball rather than hitting a golf ball.

Reid, the East High girls soccer coach, was part of an American team that won the inaugural Pacific Trophy against Team Japan in Palm Springs, California.

Team USA won the women’s, men’s and senior divisions.

In the women’s competition, Reid shot a 1-under-par 71 to win low-round honors in the group of eight women – four American, four Japanese.

“I beat the winner of the US Nationals by 1 stroke, it was very close and very intense!,” Reid wrote on Facebook. “I feel very blessed to have played with and against so many talented players!”

The Desert Willow Golf Resort hosted three days of footgolf action – with the U.S. National Championships on Friday and Saturday, and the Pacific Trophy on Sunday.

At nationals, Leilani Tedeski beat Reid by 14 shots, 139-153. The top four women qualified for the Pacific Trophy against Japan.

“And thank you Jeremy Johnson for being my caddy today and a HUGE thank you to my husband, Adam Reid for being so supportive and getting me a sweet ball for my trip!!,” Reid wrote on Facebook.
