Desi Edmunds, Matt Toth

Alaska trap shooters Desi Edmunds and Matt Toth each won team gold medals at the 2017 World FITASC shoot in Budapest, Hungary.

Edmunds, who grew up in Anchorage and now lives in Houston, was part of the three-woman American team that beat a group from Great Britain and Northern Ireland by a score of 491-480 to claim the gold medal.

Edmunds hit the most clay targets in two of the eight rounds in the final.

In the individual competition, she finished ninth out of 62 shooters and missed the medal round by just five targets. She hit 24 out of 25 clays in round three and posted a 23 in round seven.

In the junior division, Chugiak’s Toth was part of a dramatic victory by the Americans.

Team USA beat the Brits and Irish by the slimmest of margins, 521-520.

Toth posted 23s in the second and fifth rounds, and 22s in the first and sixth.

Individually, he placed 22nd out of 61 shooters. He missed the medal round by eight targets.
