Eagle River’s Alev Kelter reached a major milestone and helped Team USA reach the finals at the first HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series tournament of the new season.

The Eagles went 2-1 on Day 2 of competition to advance to the championship match against No. 1-ranked New Zealand, which beat the Americans 33-7 for its fourth consecutive tournament title dating to last season.

Kelter, of Chugiak High fame, finished second on the team in scoring with 20 points in six games. She had the winning 2-point conversion a 21-19 victory over France in the semifinals.

The 27-year-old back also surpassed the 500-point plateau with the national team and now has amassed 503 points in 133 career caps.

This weekend she accounted for 20 percent of Team USA’s scoring with two 5-point conversions and five 2-point conversions.
